Million dollar plus claimants are on the rise and the growth in high-cost claimants is multi-factorial, troubling employer-sponsored health plans like never before. No annual or lifetime max’s, medical advances, industry trends and the regulatory landscape are all impacting increases in cost; in addition to, increased FDA approvals and improved survivability among high-cost conditions such as neonates, oncology. In this session, learn about innovations in healthcare to proactively manage and improve outcomes in patient care and improve health plan financial performance long term.

Dr. Shealynn Buck, MD is Lockton Benefit Group’s, Chief Medical Officer. As a multifaceted physician leader with operational, technical and consulting experience in the biopharmaceutical, hospital and insurance industries, Dr. Buck brings real-world, applied knowledge to help employers navigate the dynamic,  complex employee health landscape with confidence. Leveraging Lockton’s InfoLock® data analytics platform and best-in-class resources, Dr. Buck partners with client teams and solution experts to deliver actionable, targeted strategies that manage costs, improve health and drive business performance. She has spoken extensively for organizations and with the news media on health issues including stress, disease prevention, and biopharmaceuticals.

Dr. Buck will share how to use Clinical Expertise plus Big Data to identify and mitigate emerging health risks and large claimants. She will provide insight into recent costly trends in Infertility, Diabetes Management, Specialty Therapies and Opioids and strategies to address the new cost drivers in your health care plans.   

As a result of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Outline emerging health trends and why they are important to CFOs
  • Explain who clinical consultants are and how these consultants combine knowledge with data to anticipate and assess the impact of health trends
  • Describe use cases that illustrate the approach to analyzing the risk and cost impact of specific health trends
  • Define strategies to mitigate the impact of specific health trends

Board certified in clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology, complete her residency and fellowship in clinical pathology; Emory University School of Medicine and M.D.; Emory University School of Medicine.

Lisa Bordelon

Lisa Bordelon is a Partner with Lockton and joined the firm in 2012. Her consulting expertise is with large complex self-funded employer-sponsored health plans; focusing on large claims management and pharmacy as the two most significant cost drivers of plan performance. Her clients are private and public employer plan sponsors who require strategic thinking and innovative resources to drive cost containment, program efficiencies, and employee engagement. She also works closely with private equity sponsors on diligence support for all insurance needs and providing transactional insurance products such as Reps & Warranty.

Once approved, FEI will register prospects and inform the member or sponsor contact that the prospect has been approved to attend. This is applicable to anyone bringing a prospective member.
