Mike Krakovsky, Managing Director, Special Situations at Stout
Michael Krakovsky is a Managing Director and Co-Head of the Special Situations Group. Mike has over 20 years of experience providing advice on a wide range of special situations transactions. He has advised middle-market debtors and creditors on numerous in-court and out-of-court restructuring transactions, and has focused on distressed companies as both an investment banker and a principal investor.

Prior to joining Stout, Mr. Krakovsky spent 13 years in Houlihan Lokey’s Financial Restructuring Group in Los Angeles, where he was a senior officer completing transactions across a variety of industries. In addition, he has experience as a principal investor at Levine Leichtman Capital Partners’ Deep Value distressed debt fund, where he was a Managing Director responsible for sourcing and analyzing distressed debt opportunities and managing the fund’s investment portfolio. Mr. Krakovsky began his career as a transactional lawyer with Irell & Manella.

Mr. Krakovsky frequently presents on restructuring topics at various industry events including the Turnaround Management Association (TMA), American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI), New York City Bar Conference, and the Houlihan Lokey Aerospace Defense and Government Industry Conference.

John Baumgartner, Managing Director, Bankruptcy & Restructuring at Stout
John Baumgartner is a Managing Director in the  Disputes, Compliance, & Investigations group. He has more than 17 years of consulting, restructuring, and corporate finance experience. He has been involved with financial and operational restructurings, solvency analyses, fraudulent transfer disputes, investigations of fraud and misconduct, forensic accounting investigations, valuation of assets and enterprises, asset divestitures, and due diligence.

Mr. Baumgartner has served in interim management roles and as a court-appointed trustee.  He has advised trustees, debtors, senior lenders, mezzanine lenders, and unsecured creditors of companies in industries that include real estate, healthcare, power and utilities, retail gas marketing, retail power marketing, midstream energy companies, web hosting/e-commerce, transportation, and retail services.

In recent years, Mr. Baumgartner has:

  • Served as Chief Restructuring Officer (“CRO”) of companies developing a chemical plant that will produce commercial waxes. Services include advising the boards of directors, negotiating with creditors, developing restructuring alternatives and negotiating with potential investors and lenders.
  • Served as financial advisor to an offshore marine construction company specializing in shallow Gulf of Mexico construction, maintenance and decommissioning services. Services included advising equity owners and management, negotiating a plan of reorganization with multiple secured lenders, cash forecasting, and assessing value of assets and the enterprise.
  • Served as financial advisor to the creditors committee of a Texas-based exploration and production company. Services include valuation of reserves and enterprise, litigation consulting, analysis of sale proposals, financial analysis and negotiation of a plan of reorganization/liquidation.
